Nature & greenery

The extensive gardens of Rheinsberg Palace border Lake Grienicksee. Beautifully laid out pathways, sculptures and flower beds provide an oasis of peace. A particular feature of the grounds is Prince Henry's rather special final resting place, a pyramid-shaped mausoleum. In summer the grounds of the palace are popular with sunbathers.
Rheinsberg lies at the heart of the picturesque 800 square metre Stechlin-Ruppiner Land nature reserve in north Brandenburg. The region is characterised by expanses of ancient beech forests and more than 100 lakes, and is ideal for long hikes or canoe trips. Covering an area of 425 hectares, Lake Stechlinsee is the largest freshwater lake on the North German Plain. The Rheinsberg lakes are great places to go angling, swimming and canoeing.
In the little village of Menz, 11km outside Rheinsberg, there is a special kind of museum. This information centre at the Stechlin nature reserve contains interactive and child-friendly exhibits which allow the whole family to learn about the ideas behind the reserve, its conservation areas and inhabitants.
