Museums

The house where the great composer is believed to have been born was turned into a museum in 1907. Visitors can explore a number of rooms where the composer lived and worked. Musical performances featuring original keyboard instruments from the days of Johann Sebastian Bach take place in the Instrument Room. Bach's House also has a number of original exhibits such as Bach's household items, musical instruments and manuscripts.
Situated in the birthplace of glass Christmas tree decorations, the Museum of Glass Art collects, documents, researches and presents anything to do with the history of Thuringian glass. There is a whole room dedicated to Christmas tree decorations and you can see how traditional Christmas tree decorations are produced in the historical glassblowing workshop. The museum also illustrates the economic, political, social, artistic and historical developments of the glass industry, as well as looking at glass trading, production and usage.
The museum in Suhl illustrates the technical development of hand guns and the importance they have had throughout history. In addition to preserving and maintaining priceless historical objects and documents, the weapon museum gives visitors an interesting insight into the history of the industry that has made Suhl famous.
