Museums

You'll find a variety of museums to visit along the Rennsteig trail. Music lovers will want to take a look around Bach's House in Eisenach, where it feels like Bach has just got up and left the room. Glass art enthusiasts can find out everything there is to know about this fragile material at the Museum of Glass Art in Lauscha. Alternatively, you can learn all about the history of weapon production in Suhl.
 
Bach's House, Eisenach
The house where the great composer is believed to have been born was turned into a museum in 1907. Visitors can explore a number of rooms where the composer lived and worked. Musical performances featuring original keyboard instruments from the days of Johann Sebastian Bach take place in the Instrument Room. Bach's House also has a number of original exhibits such as Bach's household items, musical instruments and manuscripts.
 
Museum of Glass Art, Lauscha
Situated in the birthplace of glass Christmas tree decorations, the Museum of Glass Art collects, documents, researches and presents anything to do with the history of Thuringian glass. There is a whole room dedicated to Christmas tree decorations and you can see how traditional Christmas tree decorations are produced in the historical glassblowing workshop. The museum also illustrates the economic, political, social, artistic and historical developments of the glass industry, as well as looking at glass trading, production and usage.
 
Weapons Museum, Suhl
The museum in Suhl illustrates the technical development of hand guns and the importance they have had throughout history. In addition to preserving and maintaining priceless historical objects and documents, the weapon museum gives visitors an interesting insight into the history of the industry that has made Suhl famous.
