In the spring and summer Rügen's extensive programme of cultural events means that no-one on the island could possibly get bored. This annual festival takes place between Ascension Day and Whit Monday and offers visitors to Rügen a first-class cultural experience. Each year the festival focuses on a particular composer or era in the history of music. The Summer Theatre Festival takes place every year in July and August at Cape Arkona in the north of the island. Productions could be performed in the open air or in venues such as the lighthouse, but each is guaranteed to be a real experience whether it's a classic play such as "Romeo and Juliet" or a modern comedy. In August and September each year the residents of Rügen really like to have fun. "La crème de la crème" of German kabarett artistes, such as Urban Priol, Kurt Krömer and Willy Astor, ensure there are laughs aplenty. This is one of the most popular events on Rügen.
