Suggested excursions

Why not combine your trip to one of the events at the northern circuit with a stroll around one of the fascinating towns and cities in the surrounding area, many of which can look back on a vibrant and colourful past.

Adenau
Situated in the heart of the Eifel's largest contiguous area of forest, the small town of Adenau is 1,000 years old. The traditional timber-framed houses dating from the 17th century form a beautiful backdrop to the market square. Other attractions include the local history and guild museum and the farmhouse museum.

Koblenz
Koblenz, founded by the Romans, is set at the famous Deutsches Eck (German Corner), where the Rhine and Moselle rivers meet. Ehrenbreitstein Fortress and Stolzenfels Castle are part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage site, along with the legendary Loreley and the romantic castles perched on the steep slopes above the Rhine. Just a quick stroll around the town will highlight the appeal of Koblenz - its romantic narrow streets and historical squares, along with the picturesque alleyways in the old quarter.

Cochem
A 1,000 year old castle is Cochem's most famous landmark. The historical mustard mill (Senfmühle), built around 1810, is one of the last of its kind in Europe. Other places to see are the market square, the baroque town hall, the Martinsbrunnen (a feature of the town's historical water supply), St. Martin's Church, the former Capuchin monastery (now an arts centre) and sections of the old town walls including the town gates: Enderttor, Mäusetor and Balduinstor.
