Eisenach

Eisenach – Wartburg castle
Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach, Martin Luther lived here for three years as a school boy and later spent 300 days in the Wartburg Castle.  The sight of the Wartburg inspired Richard Wagner to write his opera „Tannhäuser“.  Johann Wolfgang von Goethe often visited Eisenach. „The area is overwhelming“ he wrote Charlotte von Stein in 1777.
