Potsdam has been linked with Prussian-German history since time immemorial. Despite its turbulent history, intermittent destruction and sheer decay, Potsdam still gives today's visitors an impression of "Arcadia". In 1990 UNESCO awarded the city the status of "world cultural heritage".
