Take a steamer to the islands or swim in one of the many bathing lakes. Cycle around Chiemsee, or go up, up and away in a glider - or even a balloon - over the beautiful countryside of the Chiemgau region. Ramble through the nature reserves and moor lands; take a guided tour to spot wild herbs or bird-calls. Whichever season you choose, the wealth of nature is unforgettable.

The Fraueninsel: Already from afar the over thousand-year-old convent with its solid bell tower calls across in greeting. The island is not only the home of the well-known Benedictine nuns but for many generations it has also been the home of fishermen's families and artists who draw their power necessary for their work from the idyll of the island.

There on the small island Herreninsel the unfinished palace Herrenchiemsee is situated. This building is a replica of Versailles with formal French gardens and a hall of mirrors.
