Fourteen departments currently exhibit just one quarter of their treasures on 20,000 sq. metres. Once the entire extension work is completed the house will be among the world's largest technology museums, accommodating more than 50,000 sq. m. of : old-timers, locomotives and planes, new nautical collections, household appliances and machine tools, computers, radios and cameras, diesel engines, steam engines, scientific instruments, printing presses and much more.

Almost every department offers demonstrations and activities. The workings of a vast number of historical machines and models are shown and explained.

A new aeronautic and space collection is due to open in spring 2005.

HNF - Heinz Nixdorf Museums Forum - The largest Computer Museum in the World

Auto & Technik Museum Sinsheim

Situated approximately 25 minutes south of Heidelberg this huge Museum covers an area of over 30.000m² indoors and on open-air grounds an area in excess of 50.000m².

The Auto & Technik Museum in Sinsheim is home to more than 3.000 exhibits, among them an original AirFrance Concorde, a Tupolev TU-144 russian supersonic-jet plus 300 vintage cars, 200 motorbikes, 40 race- and sports cars, 27 locomotives, 50 airplanes, 150 tractors, steam engines and trucks and if that isn't enough there is an equally impressive sister Museum in Speyer (30 minutes west of Sinsheim).

The whole exhibition is family orientated and includes lots of fun attractions and playgrounds for children. One of the main highlights of this museum is the IMAX 3D movie theatre, where you can enjoy the experience of three-dimensional movies on a 20x27m screen. The museum even has its own 4* hotel with all the luxury and facilities you could wish for.

Technik Museum Speyer

Situated on an area of over 150,000m² outdoors and 16,000m² indoors the Technik Museum in Speyer offers visitors an awe inspiring collection of more than 2,000 exhibits. Among them are 70 classic aircrafts and helicopters, 50 vintage cars, 40 fire engines and 20 locomotives.

The highlights of this museum are a Boeing 747, a U9 submarine with walk-in facilities and the world’s biggest propelled aircraft a Ukrainian Antonov AN 22. In addition there is a maritime plus a miniature model exhibition and if that isn't enough there is an equally impressive sister Museum in Sinsheim. Sinsheim is located just 30 minutes east of Speyer and the star attraction here is an original Air France Concorde.

For your convenience both museums have their own onsite hotels.

Zeppelin Museum Friedrichshafen

Experience the history and technology of airships and zeppelins on 43,000 sq. ft. of exhibition space.

Housed in the former Harbour Railway Station and located on the promenade of lake Constance, the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen is home to the world’s largest collection of airships, ranging from its very beginning up to the new Zeppelin NT.

German Museum – Deutsches Museum

German Museum
Location: Munich

Founded in 1903, the Deutsches Museum is the largest museum of science and technology in the world, covering a floor space of 55,000m²

The museum contains invaluable original machines and equipment, models and reconstructions, from classical mechanics to telecommunications, from a full-size reconstructed coal mine to space travel technology and nuclear physics.

If you like anything technical in any way, this is the place to head for.

German Maritime Museum - Deutsches Schiffahrtsmuseum

German Maritime Museum
Location: Bremerhaven

From medival shipping to polar research, from fishing and whaling to leisure sailing and boating, the German Maritim Museum boasts a great deal of interesting subjects and displays including the oldest boat in the world from 9000 BC.

The museum complex is also home to an original Hanseatic cog from 1380 AD, a great Wilhem Bauer U-Boat and a habour with 9 floating historic ships.

Mercedes Benz Museum

Mercedes Benz Museum
Location: Stuttgart

This museum belongs to the oldest motor-car factory in the world, showing collections of beautiful historic and luxury vehicles, fast racing and record breaking cars as well as impressive boat and plane engines. 

The museum itself is a modern glass and steel structure that displays around 100 cars on 5760m2,  there is also a display of all the current models including the cute "Smart Car".
