The Hamburger Bahnhof ­ Museum was opened in 1996 as the new »museum for the present day«.

It houses art from the second half of the 20th century on an exhibition space of roughly 10,000 sq.m.including contemporary art in the form of paintings, sculptures, graphics, photography, video, multimedia and light displays.

Ludwig Museum

Ludwig Museum
Location: Cologne

The Museum Ludwig is devoted to modern art from the beginning of the 20th century. The highlight of the museum is the collection of Pop Art built up by Peter and Irene Ludwig – the largest outside the USA!

In addition, the Ludwigs have bequeathed a considerable collection on the Russian avantgarde from the period of 1906 to 1930 and a collection of several hundred works by Pablo Picasso.

Extended opening hours, 10 am - 11pm, every month on the 1st Friday

North Rhine-Westphalia's Art Collection – Kunstsammlung NRW

North Rhine-Westphalia's Art Collection
Location: Duesseldorf

In its forty year history the Kunstsammlung NRW has established its own unmistakable profile as a museum for 20th century art, and has long been recognised internationally for its outstanding collection of paintings, including works by Picasso, Braque, Ernst, Chagall, Léger, Klee.

Since 2002 its collection expanded into a new museum and building, called "K 21". Here the work that the Kunstsammlung has carried out so successfully in the past enters a new era, with international contemporary art and art of the 21st century.

Museum Folkwang

Location: Essen

The Museum Folkwang is host to one of the oldest collections in Germany of Art from the 19th to the 20th century. The Exhibition features a wide range of German and French paintings, graphic art and sculptures.

Museum of Modern Art – Museum für Moderne Kunst

Museum of Modern Art
Location: Frankfurt

Come face to face with a road sweeper in the middle of the wall, share a secret with a stranger, be amazed by a dish–washing marathon, encounter a pensive Superman, be moved by benches, insert your head into a picture, or think of Spinoza or Bush.

Founded in 1981, this latest addition to Frankfurt’s museum world was baptized the »slice of cake« by locals, due to its triangular shape, it has a superb collection of outstanding American and European works of contemporary art dating from the 1960s.

Hamburger Kunsthalle

The Kunsthalle is one of the most important art museums in Germany, and its collections span seven centuries of art history.

The Gallery of Contemporary Art was opened in 1997. The Kunsthalle hosts approx. 20 special exhibitions per year.

The Pinakothek Modern - Pinakothek der Moderne

The Pinakothek Modern
Location: Munich

With a total exhibition area of over 12,000 sq. m., the Pinakothek der Moderne is Germany's most highly frequented art gallery.

The museum brings together five major collections of classic modernism under one roof: architecture, painting, graphics, sculpture and design, however, you will also find video installations, photography and other contemporary art.

The museum has recently been completed and now contains the world's largest collection of modern art, being itself a fascinating piece of modern architecture.
