Between 1919 and 1933, the Bauhaus School, based first in Weimar and then in Dessau, revolutionized architectural and aesthetic concepts and practices for much of the world's architecture in the 20th century.
The building was built and designed in 1925 by Walter Gropius who was then regarded as a radical artist and architect who created innovative designs that borrowed materials and methods of construction from modern technology.
Today the Bauhaus is an important museum and a protected UNESCO world heritage site.
