London, 18 April 2006 – Are you looking for a different angle for your next holiday? We can offer you 50! Travelling on Germany’s Scenic Holiday Routes is a fun way to explore the country and offers a great variety of interesting themes, which you can dedicate your trip to.
It all started in 1927, when the forward-thinking Dr Knorz from Prien thought it’d be a great idea to develop a route linking the Alpine valleys and resort as a way of increasing tourism to the Alpine region. His idea was well received and first parts of the route were built in the 1930s.
Today, the German Alpine Road runs from Lindau on Lake Constance to Berchtesgaden on Lake Königssee, covering 450km along beautiful Alpine scenery, romantic castles and crystal clear mountain lakes.
A lot has happened since 1927, and many other Scenic Routes have been developed throughout Germany, offering holiday makers a comfortable way to discover the country. Clearly signposted, the routes are easy to follow and will lead you to many sights and treasures you may have otherwise passed by.
Most popular with visitors from abroad is the Romantic Road. Starting in the picturesque city of Würzburg (featuring the UNESCO World Heritage awarded Prince Bishop’s Residence, surrounded by vineyards) passing historic towns, enchanting villages and picture-postcard landscapes on its way to the most famous fairytale castle of them all: Neuschwanstein near Füssen – how much more romantic can it possibly get?
For those who prefer it a bit more obscure and a bit less mainstream, why not explore the German Clock Route, the Historic Ox Route or the Old Salt Road?
